How To Care for Dry Skin

Avoid the use of tap water when cleansing dry skin. The deposits are too drying on the skin. And never, ever use hot water. Use mineral water to freshen your face. Don't use a washcloth-a rough texture can irritate. In the morning, apply a spray of mineral water on your skin misted on with a plant sprayer. (Do not use a sprayer that had been used for spraying insecticides.) Lightly pat dry.

Dry skin needs plenty of thorough but gentle cleansing, regular stimulation with massage and generous quantities of oil and moisture. It also needs extra careful protection. Washing dry skin with soap and water not only removes grime but also the natural oils protecting the skin. A moisturizer increases the water content of the outer layers of the skin and gives it a soft, moist look.

Use nondetergent, neutral-pH products to cleanse your skin. Avoid using any commercial soap. And always touch your face gently. Double-cleanse with a cream, leaving a light, thin trace of it on the skin after the second cleansing.

Follow a bath or a shower with a mild application of baby oil. Massage your face with home-made nourishing cream every night before retiring. Be generous with the cream in the areas surrounding the eyes where tiny lines and crows feet are born.

Avoid coming in contact with highly alkaline soaps and detergents like washing sodas and powders which contain highly alkaline and drying ingredients.

Moistening with water, then applying a thin film of air-excluding moisturizer, restores the suppleness of the dry skin.

Morning Skin Cleanser/Rejuvenator
Every morning 15 minutes before taking your bath

1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon orange juice
1 teaspoon olive oil and
few drops of rose water
few drops of lime juice

Mix the above ingredients together and apply on your skin.

Beauty Mask for Dry Skin
1 egg
1 teaspoon of honey,
1/2 teaspoon of olive oil and
few drops of rose water

Mix the ingredients thoroughly and use as a mask.

Night Moisturizing
After you clean and tone your skin, apply a splash of water or a water-misting. Pat almost dry with a soft towel, then smooth moisturizer from bosom to hairline. Allow five minutes for immediate absorption (cover your face and throat with warm washcloths to hasten penetration), then blot off any excess moisturizer with a tissue.

Men can skip the toner but should moisturize the delicate skin around the eye area.

Day Moisturizing
Apply a touch of your natural moisturizer over the freshly cleansed, toned, and dampened skin on your throat, cheeks, and around your eyes. Men should follow a two-step process. Apply moisturizer immediately after shaving. Wait ten minutes. Then moisturize again.

Hope this help.

Face Packs for Oily Skin

Oily skins have very active sebaceous glands that secrete more oil leaving the skin look dull and greasy thus attracting a lot of dirt which then clogs the pores. Oily skin is caused by over-active glands, which produce a substance called Asebum, a naturally healthy skin lubricant. When the skin produces too much sebum, it becomes thick and heavy in texture.

For this you need a pack that rejuvenates, tightens and exfoliates skin. Mash six strawberries with a teaspoon of Brandy, two spoons of breadcrumbs, two spoons of fuller's earth and a few drops of rose water. Mix well and apply a thick layer on the face and neck and leave on for 20 minutes.

Since strawberries have Vitamin C and a certain acidic properties they leave the skin sparkling clean. Breadcrumbs help to exfoliate dead skin while fuller's earth will tighten the pores and brandy would help to add some glow.

Oily skin could be due to heredity, hormone levels, diet, pregnancy, humidity, or due to the kind of cosmetics used. The excess oil secreted by the sebaceous glands is more during adolescence and decreases with age. But oily skin does not develop wrinkles or does not show signs of aging very early as in dry or normal skin types.

Oil-free moisturizers should be used to avoid the skin from appearing shiny /sticky. If a gentle antibacterial soap or cleanser in combination with lukewarm water is used for a face wash, it would help in dissolving the skin oils.

A clay mask would be good for sensitive skin types. Choosing the right face packs is also of importance, else, the skin may get excessively dry or oily.

How To Get Rid of Big, Ugly Pimple

If you are prone to acne , a well-tailored daily skin care regimen is crucial to preventing breakouts - and that's a topic for another entry. But everyone, of every skin type, needs to contend with an isolated blemish sometimes. So what can you do when you get an unwelcome surprise in the form of an uncomfortable, red pimple?
  1. For those once-in-a-blue-moon zit emergencies - we're talking a major photo shoot or your wedding here! - apply a hydrocortisone cream. This topical anti-inflammatory will quickly and effectively take the redness out of a pimple; use it too often, though, and you can actually stimulate acne. If you really want a quick and effective solution, you can also talk to your dermatologist about a steroid injection (such as Kenalog), which is essentially a stronger and more direct version of hydrocortisone cream.
  2. Of course, trips to the dermatologist aren't always practical, and we all know how tempting it is to just pop those pimples! I won't lecture you about why that's never the best idea - I'm sure you've heard it before, and even the skin-savviest among us just need to make zits go away quickly sometimes. I will, however, give you some guidelines on how and when it's safest to do the deed: Only pimples with clearly defined yellow-white centers are safe to pop. Before you get started, be sure to wash your hands carefully. Next, hold a warm washcloth over the pimple for 3-5 minutes, and then gently press two cotton swabs on either side of the pimple (you don't want to risk introducing any dirt or bacteria to the pore). Most importantly, know when to stop: If the pimple doesn't pop with gentle pressure, stop trying - force a pimple that's not ready, and you run the risk of scarring. Finally, apply a salicylic acid spot treatment to the affected area.
  3. In fact, salicylic acid is the best weapon in your anti-blemish arsenal whether you've just popped a pimple or not. It's my favorite treatment ingredient for two reasons: Salicylic acid is safe for even sensitive skin (unlike, for example, benzoyl peroxide) and it can actually penetrate the sebum in your skin, clearing clogged pores as it reduces redness and inflammation. My favorite products with salicylic acid include Kinerase Clear Skin Blemish Dissolver, Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Defense Face Lotion, Bliss Change Your Spots, and Clinique Acne Solutions Spot Healing Gel.
Oh, and one more thing: Have you heard the urban beauty legend that toothpaste is a good pimple spot treatment? No such luck. It may once have been true - toothpaste used to contain zinc, which is an anti-inflammatory. These days, though, toothpastes do not contain zinc... so all you'll end up with is a minty mess on your face.

Wishing you great skin!
